GMAT Registration

Student looking through GMAT and grad school information

Since there are no fixed dates for GMAT registration or completion, you can register for the GMAT at any time of the year. Whether you're planning to take the test online or in person, you can sign up for the GMAT and schedule an exam appointment up to 24 hours before an available testing slot. However, most experts recommend registering two to three months in advance.

How to Register for the GMAT

Creating an account on the official GMAT website is the easiest way to register for the GMAT. From there, you can find a list of exam dates, times, and nearby testing centers. If test centers in your area are closed, you can take the exam online. Schedule your test day early enough to ensure that your GMAT scores are available before your chosen business school's application deadline.

As part of your GMAT exam registration, you'll need to select a time of day to take your test. Depending on your schedule and when you feel the most alert and well-rested, a morning or afternoon test time might be a better choice for you. Early risers may want to schedule their exam for around 8 AM, while others might prefer a late afternoon or evening time slot.

Online Registration

You can use the same website portal to register for the GMAT online exam. To take this remote, proctored test, you'll need access to a strong, reliable internet connection. Both Windows and Mac computers and laptops can support the online GMAT exam, and final scores arrive via email within seven business days.

Registration Fees

How Much Does It Cost to Take the GMAT?

It costs $275 to register for the in-person GMAT exam and $250 to take the online version of the test. Some countries require you to pay an additional tax when you register for the GMAT. If you need to reschedule or cancel your exam appointment, you'll receive a partial refund and have to pay a fee of $50, $100, or $150, depending on how close you are to your original test date when you cancel it.

GMAT registration fees are payable online, over the phone, through the mail, or via fax. Pay with a check, money order, or a GMAC-approved credit or debit card (i.e., VISA, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover). If your card declines, your appointment is automatically canceled, and you must reschedule using a valid form of payment.

Test Registration and Accommodations

Test-takers with disabilities can request certain accommodations on the official GMAT website. Read the GMAT Handbook Supplement for Test Takers with Disabilities for details, and attach the necessary documentation to your request form. From there, you must wait to receive an emailed approval letter and follow the instructions for scheduling your accommodated exam.

Cancelling and Rescheduling

Deadlines and fees for rescheduling or canceling your GMAT appointment vary by country. You can cancel or reschedule your exam online or over the phone, but you must make these changes more than 24 hours before your scheduled test date. Those who miss their scheduled exam will forfeit their entire registration fee and must pay full price to select another test date.

Retesting

How Long Do You Have to Wait to Retake the GMAT?

If you are unsatisfied with your GMAT score, you can register to retake the exam online or in person. Unless you are rescheduling a current or missed appointment, you must wait at least 16 days to retake the test. Students are allowed five attempts within a single year and a maximum of eight attempts in one lifetime.
